First Year Anniversary Book Giveaway!

Today is the one year anniversary of my blog, CookThatBook!

To think that a full 365 days have passed since I first (nervously!) launched this website seems impossible. As the old adage says; how quickly time flies when you’re having fun. When I reflect upon the past year I am incredibly thankful for all of the wonderful people I’ve met, the new foodie friends I’ve made, and the numerous culinary experiences I have enjoyed along the way.

In celebration of CookThatBook’s one year anniversary, I will be giving away a copy of Dorie Greenspan’s “Around My French Table” to one lucky reader! To enter for a chance to win, post a comment below telling me about your favourite cookbook of all time. On October 31st one name will be drawn randomly from the list of comments. A huge thank you to the folks over at Thomas Allen & Son, Ltd. for donating a copy of the book for our giveaway!

I initially began this website because of  my out of control cookbook collection! With two small children at home I found myself searching for a project that went beyond my roles as wife and mother – something just for me. One night I found myself staring at my cookbooks, thinking about how the majority of my obsession had never been used. It was at that point I decided to create a food blog as a means of actually doing something with my cookbooks besides simply collecting them. They needed a purpose in life! As a result, I came up with the idea of starting a blog dedicated entirely to the review of cookbooks. One by one I would make my way through the stacks of books taking over my house, testing three recipes from each book, recording the results and providing an overall review to share with others.

So a year after launching my site has my cookbook collection decreased in size? Absolutely not! I doubt it ever will.

A heartfelt thank you to my loyal readers, all of the celebrity chefs I have interviewed, and the publishing houses who have been so wonderful in feeding my cookbook addiction by sending review copies.

Cheers!

Congratulations on your blog’s first year anniversary! How exciting.
One of my favorite cookbooks is “Colore”, by the Denver Junior League. Every recipe I have cooked out of this book has been successful. I find myself coming back to it all the time.

I know it’s a cliche but I have to go with “The Joy of Cooking”—it is by fa my most dog eared cookbook. Congratulations on one year!

Congratulations!!! As you know I am new to the world of food in general really. I don’t have a favourite cook book yet. I have a feeling it might be For the Love of Salad that you reviewed!
Happy One Year….you should review a dessert book and make a cake with a 1!

My favorite cookbook of all times in Deborah Madison’s Vegetarian Cookbook for Everyone.

  8. It is a regional cookbook called The Recipes of Pioneer Women of the Plains, a church group put it together. I love it!

  9. Congrats on your anniversary. I love cookbooks and it’s so hard to pick just one as an all time favorite. Usually it’s the newest one I’m cooking from and at the moment that is Southern Plate by Christy Jordan.

How wonderful! My favorite cookbook of all time is The Martha Stewart Living Cookbook: The Original Classics. The recipes are timeless, mostly easy, and always delicious. I can’t tell you how often I’ve drawn inspiration from it.

    Congratulations!

  11. Great picture!

  12. My favourite cookbook is Nigella Lawsons “Forever Summer”. Just can’t beat all those fresh ingredients. So useful when you love to grow your own food…:)

  13. Congrats on your 1 year anniversary! I loved all of Jess Smith’s (The Frugal Gourmet) cookbooks – probably because my love of cooking began by watching him on TV many years ago.

I love the Heart of the Home books by Susan Branch. She has a whole series but this is the one that started it.
It is a book that has some recipes that are for just the everyday person and some of the most wonderful artwork on the pages along the recipes.

  15. It’s so hard to choose just one. Like you, my cookbook addiction is out of control (luckily I’m not banned from growing it yet; my bf just keeps making room:) I’ll pick two- Second Helpings, Please! because my mom made a lot of these recipes growing up, and Taste of Home Family Collection.

Hey, congrats! How funny that we started within a week of each other… you seem like a pro! I’m so glad we found each other through the BA project.

My fave cookbook is a toss-up between “Frank Stitt’s Southern Table” and “Fresh and Fast” by Marie Simmons. The former for really in-depth Food of Love stuff, the latter for great everyday dishes for the real world.

Keep up the great work, friend!

I collect cookbooks and have many favorites. I cannot pick just one. My first cookbooks were from all the “Farm Journal” books with recipes from real country farm women. Since then, I of course have modified my recipes to make them a tad bit healthier. Congrats on your blog’s first year anniversary! I just found your blog and look forward to reading it from day one.
